Tony has a diverse background that started with his enlistment in the United States Marines Corps, where he worked as an Aircraft Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician. Upon separation he started his law enforcement career with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. While assigned to general investigations he specialized in crimes against children, sex related offenses, and managed compliance of registered sex offenders within Yuma County. While balancing his responsibilities as an investigator Tony was assigned to the Special Response Team and Bomb Squad. Tony realized early in his career that to change a community it took educating the community. He began outreach programs that specifically addressed crime prevention, by developing courses that raised awareness on identifying sexual predators and their cycle of violence. Tony left Yuma County Sheriffs Office for the Arizona Department of Public Safety where he resumed his responsibilities as a part time Bomb Technician and SWAT Operator. He worked as an undercover officer with the Gang Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission and while assigned as a Taskforce Officer with to Homeland Security Investigations. His focus as a Taskforce Officer was investigating Transnational Criminal Organizations. Tony finally became a fulltime Bomb Technician and was able to focus his efforts on community outreach and unit development. He developed recognition and response courses for citizens, first responders, and school faculty. He is an instructor for ALICE and has been an instructor for the nonprofit ICSAVE since its inception. ICSAVE provides solutions to active violence events. Through his outreach, Tony strives to actively develop integrated preparedness and response practices and strategies to prevent or minimize the criminal impact on our communities.
